Jihlava - Jihlava received 12 proposals for the renovation of the central Masaryk Square. The jury will select the winner and other awarded proposals in September, and the city's development department will check the formal correctness of the proposals beforehand. This follows from data published on the website of the city hall. Masaryk Square, covering an area of 3.7 hectares, is among the largest in the Czech Republic and is part of the urban monument reservation. The architectural competition for its revitalization was announced by the city in May, and applications could be submitted until the beginning of this month.
"The competition is held anonymously; the identities of the participants are not known even to the jury members. The authors of all proposals will be revealed only after the evaluation," stated project coordinator Tereza Kafková in a press release. The jury is chaired by architect Petr Pelčák, and includes other architects and representatives of the city. Additionally, experts in transportation and heritage care will also be invited.
The results of the competition and all proposals will then be published by the city. "A public planning meeting will be held for the selected proposal, where the public will be able to discuss with the authors," Kafková stated. These authors will then be expected to develop the final version of the study for the square's renovation. This will be followed by the creation of further necessary documentation.
The subject of the competition is a revitalization that will make the center of the regional capital more attractive to residents and visitors. Changes are expected to involve transportation and greenery. After the proposals are published, it will become clear whether the architects have also addressed the criticized building of the Prior shopping center.
The city is expected to carry out the actual renovations of the square in phases, according to earlier statements from its representatives. The process will likely depend on the politicians elected in the upcoming municipal elections this fall.
