Vision for the City of Roudnice nad Labem
urban planning studio: Ing.arch. Akad.arch. Jiří Klokočka / Ing arch. Dott. Ing. Petr Janoš

The city of Roudnice nad Labem is located in the southeastern part of the Litoměřice district, Ústí nad Labem region, in the NUTS II – Northwest area, largely on the left bank of the Elbe River.
The city is among the most significant settlement units of the Litoměřice district and is a natural center of the Podřipsko area. The beginnings of the city are connected to the existence of a ford across the Elbe. Roudnice or Rudenice is the name it received because of a spring of reddish water that still flows near the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The oldest written references from the second half of the 12th century document the ownership of Roudnice by the bishops of Prague.

Concept
Roudnice nad Labem is a great city. During our analyses, we did not encounter any significant problems, but rather the fact that Roudnice has many potentials, although not all are fully utilized. Therefore, we decided to select some of them and support the identity of the city with our proposal. Throughout the process, we discovered that our selected potentials meet the chosen goals. These two components support each other and logically connect.

Potentials of Roudnice
Roudnice is a city full of greenery, surrounded by nature and located in an agriculturally fertile area of the Czech Republic. The proximity of the Elbe River brings not only natural beauty but also a water transport artery. At the same time, there is a railway line along the Elbe, which is one of the main railway corridors in the Czech Republic. The water and rail corridor provide excellent connections for public transport, both to surrounding cities and abroad. An important factor is the nearby highway from Prague towards Germany, which plays a significant role in the functioning of the city. Another huge potential of Roudnice nad Labem is its proximity to Mount Říp and the castle, which is currently an underutilized landmark of the city.
In the current structure of Roudnice nad Labem, there are significant spatial reserves, thus it is desirable for the city to densify and prioritize the involvement of unused areas within its internal structure. In all these points, we see important potentials of Roudnice nad Labem, which, with our support, can fulfill certain goals and significantly improve the identity of the city that it lacks. The identified potentials led us to specific goals, and then to concrete proposals.

Goals
- defining the boundaries of development and psychologically clear boundaries of the city
- economic stability – preparing the foundations for creating new economic and job opportunities
- production of own products
- ecological stability
- enhancing the attractiveness of the city and attracting tourists
- functional infrastructure of the city, filling in gaps in the city, and defining new areas for housing
- improving civic amenities and safety in the city
