Za krásnou Olomouc, o.s. is once again preparing to award the Rudolf Eitelberger Prize this year. The aim of the award is to highlight those interventions in the organism of not only historical Olomouc that positively and successfully influenced its changing form from 2011 to July 2013. We fulfill one of the goals of the association, which is to promote and inform the public about construction and urban changes in Olomouc and for the first time also in the entire Olomouc region, with an impact on the architectural, heritage, and urban values of the affected locations. The name of the award bears the name of a significant figure, the Olomouc native Rudolf Eitelberger von Edelberg (April 17, 1817 – April 18, 1885), one of the initiating figures in modern art history and among other things, the founder of the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (now Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst). Suggestions from members of the association and the wider public were evaluated by a seven-member committee composed of both association members and external experts (František Chupík, Jana Křenková, Antonín Novák, Jakub Potůček, Dagmar Vernerová, Jakub Železný, and the committee chair Rostislav Švácha), and we are now announcing the ten finalists for the R. Eitelberger Prize. The winning project will be ceremonially announced on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 3:00 PM as part of the Architecture Day festival. This year's rich program of Architecture Day will carry the theme of industrial heritage, and the R. Eitelberger Prize 2013 will also be awarded to the winner in a predominantly industrial setting, in the former silage building of Hanácké mlýny, now globally famous for the "Villa on the Silo" extension.
