The past weekend saw the Architecture Days festival, which this year was organized by nearly fifty Czech cities. Its program in Olomouc was traditionally taken care of by the association Za krásnou Olomouc.
In addition to two walks, the fourth edition of the Rudolf Eitelberger Award was announced, which maps the best of architecture in the Olomouc Region. The festive announcement at the Music Theatre was moderated by two jury members, prominent Slovak theorists of architecture Monika Mitášová and Marián Zervan. They introduced the five finalists this year, who passed through a nine-member jury out of a total of twenty-five nominees. Honorary mentions this year went to architects Ječmen studio - Lukáš Blažek and Eva Blažková - for the reconstruction and expansion of the museum of tvarůžky in Loštice, further Michal Bartoš as the spiritual father of the idea of the House of Nature Litovelské Pomoraví and his investor, the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic. Representatives of the municipality of Bernartice, led by Mayor Mojmír Michálek, traveled to collect another diploma for the purchase and sensitive reconstruction of the Art Nouveau dance hall in Račí údolí near Javorník. Diplomas were also awarded to Luděk Štipl from the Respekt a Tolerance association and former Mayor of Loštice Ctirad Lolek, who contributed to the reconstruction of the Loštice synagogue.
The first place and thus the main prize in the form of a glass sculpture by sculptor Jaroslav Koléšek was awarded to the Mayor of Bukovany, Ivana Vančurová, for the reconstruction of the local square. Alongside her, the jury also praised the author of the reconstruction proposal, architect Michal Sborwitz.
Compared to the previous three editions, there were significantly more cases of commendable investor initiatives or civic initiatives among the awarded. It is also worth noting that in only one case do we encounter a work by architects operating in the region.
Martina Mertová, a member of the Za krásnou Olomouc association, adds: "This year's committee was excellently appointed but also very strict. This is evidenced by the fact that among the candidates we do not find any new buildings. As a result, our award becomes somewhat conservative, which saddens us a bit. On the other hand, it casts an objective light on contemporary architecture in the Olomouc Region. We firmly hope that in two years, when we award the prizes in the anniversary fifth edition, the situation will be more favorable." The festive announcement took place on October 3, 2015, at the Architecture Theatre, a new platform of the Museum of Art in Olomouc, accompanied by the opening of the laureates' exhibition from previous years in the nearby Lomená gallery.
