The Vladimir Karfík Award was established in 1991 by the Block of Architects and Artists. The award is given every 3 years to individuals and buildings that best resonate with the concept of architecture represented by Vladimir Karfík’s personality – buildings that are rational, efficient, and logical in construction, function, and expression. Its laureates include Karel Prager, Eva Jiřičná, Marián Marcinka, and Ivan Bergmann, among others. Given that the Block of Architects and Artists has a Czech and Slovak section, the nominations are always represented from both countries. This year, for the first time, the Vladimir Karfík Award was presented in cooperation with the statutory city of Zlín. The plaques were handed to the laureates by the mayor of the city, Mr. Miroslav Adámek, and the chief architect of the city, Ms. Dagmar Nová.
