On January 25, 2007, the Peter Parléř Award for 2006 will be presented to Ing. arch. Zbyňek Ryška at the Valdštejn Palace in Prague.
The architectural competition for the most original solutions for public spaces and buildings in public administration is announced annually with the consent of the Czech Chamber of Architects by the nonprofit Society of Peter Parléř, which long-term and systematically supports the development of architecture and care for the environment. This is done in partnership with Hochtief VSB a.s. and Stavby silnic a železnic a.s., which serves as an exemplary, informal, and, in many ways, inspiring collaboration.
In this year, 252 Czech cities received a call to participate in the competition, of which 30 submitted their proposals for the adjustment of public spaces and buildings in public administration. The subject of the architectural competition included 10 proposals:
Lipník nad Bečvou - Solution for the adjustment of the west wing of the castle in relation to the castle park, possibly also the area of the former Piarist college
Jablunkov - Closure of the Mariánské náměstí space
Jihlava - Adjustment of the city space at the border of the inner medieval town at the site of the former Jewish synagogue – Gustav Mahler Park
Horažďovice - Revitalization of Mírové náměstí
Kostelec nad Orlicí - Solution for the city center
Karlovy Vary - Adjustment of the Lower Station area
Přerov - Adjustments to Svobody Square
Prachatice - Solution for the space between Jánská and Ševčíkova streets
Český Krumlov - Solution for the adjustments in part of the historical area of Jelení zahrada
Třešť - Adjustment of the riverbank in the urban conservation area
This year's architectural competition brought a record number of 24 studies, among which the Evaluation Board awarded the Peter Parléř Award to the proposal for the adjustment of Svobody Square in Přerov by Ing. arch. Zbyňek Ryška, the Hochtief Award (spaces for life) for the proposal to adjust the riverbank in the heritage zone of the city of Třešť by architects Ludvík Křenek and Katarína Luciaková, and the Staveb silnic a železnic Award for contributions to the development of urban architecture for the proposal for the revitalization of Mírové náměstí in Horažďovice by Martin Kožnar and Petr Kolář. The head of the Evaluation Board, Acad. arch. Petr Kovář, noted: “It is very beneficial and commendable to seek ways to revitalize public spaces in cities, while respecting the memory of the place. Emphasizing the physical environment as a variable item and seeking those visible properties that relate to the attributes of the city's identity, adjusting to practical needs, developing in new contexts, with new meanings and new poetry. And that occurred in many of the evaluated architectural studies.”
All architectural studies, whether awarded or not, will be freely handed over to the cities for further use. On the day of the ceremonial event, all evaluated architectural studies will be on display as part of an accompanying exhibition at the Valdštejn Palace.
