Olomouc - The Olomouc city council approved the completion of project preparation for the construction of a new indoor swimming pool on land neighboring the water park. The conditioning swimming pool on Horní lán will be 25 meters long and have eight lanes. The construction will cost 360 million Czech crowns, with part of the expenses covered by a grant from the National Sports Agency. The mayor's deputy, Miroslava Ferancová (ANO), announced this on the city hall's website today. The date for the possible start and completion of the swimming pool's construction has not yet been published.

"This is a strategic investment in the city’s sports infrastructure aimed at providing modern and sustainable swimming facilities for the public, sports clubs, and schools,” explained Ferancová regarding the planned pool construction. The council approved the project's preparation in November 2023 and stated that securing a grant, which could amount to up to 100 million crowns according to previous estimates, was a condition for starting its construction.

According to Ferancová, the new indoor swimming complex on Horní lán will include a children's teaching pool, relaxation saunas, workout rooms, and facilities for sports clubs in addition to the pool. The building will meet an exceptionally energy-efficient classification labeled A. "I am working on the project together with my colleagues. We also have the city's support and prepared land,” said Dalibor Přikryl, director of Aquapark Olomouc.

The city hall is also preparing the reconstruction of the current indoor pool, which was opened near the city center in 1965. The renovation will take this pool out of operation for up to two years. According to Přikryl, there is a high demand for swimming in Olomouc year-round. The old fifty-meter pool is the only suitable water area for conditioning swimming in Olomouc. "The swimming pool is therefore heavily overloaded," Přikryl pointed out.

Currently, there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool in Olomouc, and people can also visit the water park, which opened in the outskirts of Olomouc in the summer of 2009. Aquapark Olomouc took out a loan for its construction and is repaying it with the help of city grants. The total costs of repayment are expected to exceed one billion crowns.
