Olomouc - The Olomouc city hall is preparing to reconstruct and modernize the covered swimming pool next to the city center, which, along with the outdoor pool, is among the busiest sports and recreational facilities in Olomouc. About 300,000 people visit the swimming complex each year. This week, the council decided to announce a tender for the design of the reconstruction and modernization of the large swimming pool. The mayor's deputy, Miloslav Tichý (ANO), informed about this on social media.
"The project will address the renovation of the pool basin, including the rehabilitation of the pool structure, a new surrounding structure of the pool, the reconstruction of the grandstand, including barrier-free access, revitalization of the diving tower, complete replacement of the roof covering, replacement of pool technology, ventilation, lighting, and electrical installations," said Tichý.
In 2013, with the help of European subsidies, the city completed the reconstruction of the outdoor pool, which cost 48 million crowns. Not only was the large pool basin replaced with one made of stainless steel, but the children's pool was also renovated. Lifeguards received new facilities, and children have access to a playground near the terrace of the restaurant. Benches, sun loungers, and concrete seating were installed around the outdoor pool. Two years later, new social facilities were built in the indoor pool complex.
The Olomouc city hall is also preparing a project for a new covered swimming pool, which is to be built on the land next to the city aquapark. Experts estimate the construction costs of the twenty-five-meter pool at 250 million crowns. A condition for its initiation is obtaining a grant, which could amount to up to 100 million crowns. The municipal company Aquapark Olomouc has been tasked with the preparation. "The new pool should serve for swimming lessons for schools and clubs during the reconstruction of the large hall of the Olomouc swimming stadium and subsequently expand the water area offerings for the public and sports clubs in Olomouc," said the city hall spokesperson Radka Štědrá.
