New Slaný multifunctional hall has commenced operations, it will be tested by student athletes

Slaný - The new multifunctional hall in Slaný is open for operation starting today. It meets the standards for official ball sports competitions and has space for more than 300 spectators, including 250 seated. The city paid approximately 140 million crowns for it. Since it is a so-called passive building, meaning a building with very low energy consumption, the city also utilized a grant of 25 million crowns from the State Environmental Fund. Today's official opening was followed by a triathlon in futsal, floorball, and basketball, in which students from all Slaný elementary schools and the high school participated, said Lucie Krčková, spokesperson for the Slaný city hall, to ČTK.

During the construction of the hall, the city leadership had to overcome numerous obstacles; the pandemic period and related measures complicated the planning. This was followed by a construction crisis linked to the conflict in Ukraine, which occurred precisely when the city was looking for a contractor for the hall. "The building will serve all athletes mainly from Slaný," said Martin Hrabánek (ODS), the mayor of Slaný. While elementary school students from the nearby 1st elementary school, where current gym spaces are insufficient, will use the facility in the morning, it will serve sports clubs from Slaný and possibly the surrounding area in the afternoon. Various training camps will also be held there.

The main playing area of the hall measures 44 by 25 meters, including so-called run-off areas. It is intended for futsal, floorball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, footvolley, and handball. "Tonight there is already a match MCE Slaný – Hrasl Slaný," Krčková stated. These are futsal clubs. In the following days, the operation of the hall will continue according to the booking system, which is already in place.

Athletes have access to six large changing rooms and an additional smaller changing room for referees. There are also social facilities and a bistro with a glass wall overlooking the sports area. Another sports hall is located on the upper floor of the hall, measuring 29 by 9 meters. Various dance clubs and other activities can be accommodated here; however, it is not designated for ball games. There are additional changing rooms and facilities here as well. Additionally, there is a club room for approximately 30 people on the first floor.

The construction of the hall began last January. The older Slaný sports hall, BIOS, had long been inadequate in capacity and facilities, and it also did not meet competitive standards. As a result, some clubs had to travel to neighboring halls. The new hall includes a parking lot that can accommodate 65 cars. The building will also use energy from solar panels, which have already been installed, but are not yet operational.
