Benešov - Benešov wants to build an athletic complex with a running track and facilities for technical disciplines. It should be located in the area Na Sladovce, Mayor Petr Hostek (ČSSD) told reporters today.
He pointed out that there is a winter and swimming stadium nearby. Athletes should have accommodation in the winter stadium. "Without realizing it, we have a unique opportunity to create a rather irreplaceable complex within Central Bohemia," says Hostek.
The future six-lane synthetic track is currently being designed by a commission for architecture and development. "A fully functional athletic complex should be created. Of course, there won't be stands for 30,000 spectators, but it should serve perfectly well for training purposes," Hostek stated.
There is a lack of training space for athletes in Benešov, and young sportspeople have to travel to Vlašim. Interest in athletics in the town is reportedly increasing, according to the mayor.
The former city administration wanted to develop a recreational area called Sladovka in the southeastern part of the city with an inline track, climbing wall, and disc golf course. The current administration has halted the purchase of land needed for this project, but according to Hostek, that does not mean a forest park cannot be created there. However, according to him, it is first necessary to find funding for this initiative. If everything goes well, sportspeople could also use the recreational area for training, according to Hostek.
