BENEŠOV - The Benešov town hall has invested tens of millions of crowns in sports facilities in recent years. The construction of a new gymnasium on Dukelská Street, completed this year, cost nearly 50 million crowns. "However, these are funds that are purposefully spent," said Deputy Mayor Roman Lajpert to ČTK. Besides sports teams, local residents also use the facilities.

Today, the city opened a newly renovated bowling alley, into which it has invested over 2.3 million crowns in the last three years. The local sports club that uses it has 65 members and five teams. It also hosts competitions, for example, the Benešov Schools League, which has 16 teams. The bowling alley is open to the public two days a week.
This year, the city also built a new football field with artificial turf and lighting on the site of an old cinder pitch. It cost 15 million crowns, with ten million covered by a state grant and five million provided by the city from its own resources.
By the end of the year, two new playgrounds with artificial surfaces will appear in the Benešov housing estates. Another playground is expected to be added next year near the elementary school on Jiráskova Street, which is the only one of the Benešov schools without outdoor sports facilities; however, it received a new sports hall last year.
The town hall is also not forgetting about the little ones. It is gradually working on modernizing children's sandpits. Fences will be built around them to protect them from contamination. According to Lajpert, this is quite demanding in terms of regulation, as the sandpits need to be covered at night.
