Drywall has a long tradition in the Czech Republic, and its production in Horní Počaply has been ongoing for 25 years. Rigips drywall boards can now replace traditional materials such as aerated concrete and bricks, making them an ideal solution for constructing load-bearing walls, partitions, false walls, ceilings, or even shelves. The popularity of these boards continues to grow, as evidenced by the number of submitted projects in this year's Rigips Trophy competition. The awards ceremony took place on May 30th in the Paspův Hall in Prague's Smíchov, where projects such as the Cultural House in Milovice, the Visitor Center KRNAP, and the apartment building Fragment were honored.
The Rigips Trophy awards competitive projects for outstanding craftsmanship of drywall, which is now considered a sustainable, versatile, and lightweight building material. This year, awards were presented in six categories (Hotels, Restaurants and Casinos, Wooden Buildings, Family and Apartment Buildings, Social and Cultural Facilities, Civic Amenities and Educational Facilities) along with several special awards.
“This year the expert jury selected from 42 projects, assessing primarily the quality of drywall craftsmanship, but also originality and technological and technical levels. The public also chose their favorites through online voting and on-site during the gala evening,” explains Nikola Hoffman, CEO of Rigips.
Social and Cultural Facilities Captivated the Jury and the Audience
The winning project chosen by the jury this year was the renovation of the Cultural House in Milovice by the contractor Vítězslav Kopecký, realized according to the project by Hexaplan International. The project impressed the jury, among other things, with the chessboard-patterned ceilings with a "3D" effect in the main hall of the cultural house.
In second place was the project of the Visitor Center KRNAP, which showed that drywall can be effectively combined with historical buildings. The project, carried out by Fialkovsky s.r.o., is particularly interesting for visitors thanks to the light fixtures integrated into the island and multi-level ceilings that complement the local exhibition.
The last project to progress to the international round of the competition in Paris, and also the one that won the third place award during the gala evening, was the extravagant project of the Prague apartment building Fragment. Notably, the effective use of modern engineering systems, such as ceilings with integrated cooling and heating thanks to Climafit boards, stands out.
Throughout the evening, all participants could also vote for the Audience Award of the evening, which was ultimately won by the project of the Visitor Center KRNAP, captivating the most present guests. There was also an award for Online Voting, which, after an exciting and close contest, was won by the administrative building project of Hyundai realized by Z & Ř STAVBY s.r.o., which used the entire range of Rigips drywall. Soundproofing is ensured by Blue Acoustic Boards, while perforated Rigitone boards contributed to better spatial acoustics and a modern appearance.
