In the prestigious evaluation TOP Responsible Company 2021, VELUX Czech Republic has received the title of Leader in Responsible Business, marking the third consecutive time. The jury assessed over 60 companies and praised VELUX for its global corporate strategy as well as local activities.

Every year, companies that exemplarily behave towards the environment, society, their business partners, and employees are announced as leaders in responsibility and sustainability. All evaluations are conducted by a jury composed of independent experts, resulting in a precisely determined sustainability rating. This year, eight companies exceeded 90% of the total rating, thus receiving the title of Leader. In the construction sector, two of them – VELUX and Skanska. The top eight also includes Vodafone, ČSOB, ČEZ, Plzeňský Prazdroj, Tesco, and Nestlé.

The company VELUX achieved an overall rating of 93.9%. It reached a high score above 90% in all five evaluated areas: strategy, responsible HR, supply chain, environment, and assistance to the community. It received the highest rating of 97.1% in the environment category, where the jury appreciated its active and consistent approach to the biggest environmental challenges. VELUX has already reduced its carbon footprint by 59% from 2007 to 2020, with an original target of 50%. Last year, it committed to achieving 100% carbon neutrality by 2030, while also launching a project to erase its historical carbon footprint produced over the 100 years of the company's existence by 2041. Sustainability is a key pillar of VELUX's strategy and is reflected in all aspects of its operations – from product development through production and distribution to solutions regarding product disposal after its lifespan. Specifically, this includes the introduction of single-material and plastic-free packaging. Among local activities, the jury praised, among other things, the transition to renewable energy in office spaces and the fact that 99% of waste is recycled or utilized for energy production at the VELUX manufacturing plant in Vyškov.

“VELUX has been committed to socially responsible behavior for decades. The VELUX Group is owned by a foundation that returns 49% of our profits back to society in the form of charitable project support. I view the recognition in TOP Responsible Company as confirmation that our new Sustainability Strategy is truly pioneering. I hope that we can inspire other companies and reach a state where responsible approaches become an inevitable standard in business. At the same time, I am very pleased that this trend is also being followed by other companies in the construction sector, which today bears significant responsibility and can change the world for the better,” says Zsolt Szabó, Market Director of VELUX Czech Republic.

The Business Prize for TOP Responsible Company is a unique independent ranking in the Czech Republic for large, medium, and small companies that evaluates and recognizes strategies and activities in responsibility and sustainability. For 18 years, it has monitored companies that are committed to long-term societal development, invest in employees, reduce their environmental impact, and provide innovative solutions. The TOP Responsible Company awards are open to all companies at various stages of their approach to sustainability; the individual categories reflect companies' efforts in areas such as the environment, diversity, education, and many others. 50 independent jurors from academia, media, non-profit and commercial sectors, as well as prominent individuals actively involved in shaping the culture of business in the Czech Republic, selected from over 60 companies and 145 strategies and projects those that are exceptional in their approach to responsibility and sustainability issues.
