With the use of AliasStudio or SketchBook Pro products from Autodesk, participants of the third year of the ArtCamp summer school will be able to delve into the secrets of digital design, which will take place in July 2007 in Plzeň. One of the courses that will be held from July 9 to 13 will be Digital Drawing and Painting, which will demonstrate the current possibilities of computer tools in this area. “The use of modern technology today is not avoided by any field of visual arts, whether free or applied, and the ability to utilize these digital tools has become an essential attribute for a designer's success in practice,” says Michal Jelínek, Senior Design Consultant at Autodesk and one of the instructors of this course. “Throughout the week, we will want to gradually introduce participants to various ways of using computer tools through examples from different design fields, whether product, transportation, or entertainment, so it will be possible to see and try the process of creating designs for game characters, sci-fi objects, everyday items, and finally even car styling.” The concept of each day of the course is based on approximately a two-hour live presentation of the given topic by one of the instructors, professional designers. This is followed by approximately an hour-long lecture on the given tool. The afternoon will be devoted to individual work with the support of one of the instructors. Course participants will work with SketchBook Pro and AliasStudio software from Autodesk, which will be available along with workstations and Wacom tablets throughout the course. The courses taught as part of ArtCamp 2007 are aimed at the general public interested in art and design and in gaining or deepening practical experience in these fields while working in an international and multicultural environment under the guidance of experienced and renowned Czech artist-teachers. The ArtCamp 2007 event is organized as part of the development of international cooperation by the Institute of Art and Design at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. The goal of the project is to continue the successfully initiated tradition of summer art schools at the UWB in Plzeň, establish cooperation with foreign art schools, and enable the short-term presence of distinguished Czech and foreign educators at the UUD. Participants of the summer art school can choose from a rich offer of one to three-week visual art courses focused on a wide range of artistic fields according to their interests and focus. They work in small groups in modernly equipped studios at UUD and outside of it, having all the necessary equipment available.
