KOMA MODULAR s.r.o.

The company KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION has developed a low-energy module for modular buildings. This combines the advantages of modular buildings, such as fast construction, lower acquisition costs compared to comparable standard construction by 30%, and mainly the possibility of disassembly and reassembly at a new location, with the benefits of low-energy buildings. KOMA is showcasing a low-energy modular building made of three modules at the International Building Fair IBF 2010 in Brno. If you are interested in viewing this project, below is the procedure to obtain a free ticket.

Modular buildings are gaining popularity due to their ability to be disassembled and reassembled at a new location and lower costs compared to standard construction. Investors are also attracted by the speed of construction and the environmental aspects of building. Modular buildings are "portable," allowing the investor to relocate the building to another site or sell it without being tied to the land. They do not have to worry about what to do with the building when its need has passed (which is advantageous, for example, for kindergartens). Recently, modular construction has become especially popular among kindergartens, schools, nursing homes, hotels, administrative buildings, as well as individual builders.

Modular construction is also successfully applied in residential construction in Europe. For this reason, KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION held the 4th annual student architecture competition focused on residential construction. The jury, composed of Ing. arch. Stanislav Babčan (chief architect of the city of Nitra/chairman), doc. Ing. arch. Václav Dvořák, Csc. (Czech Technical University in Prague), M. Arch. Ing. arch. Adam Gebrian (Technical University of Liberec), Ing. arch. Dagmar Nová (chief architect of the city of Zlín), Ing. arch. Zdeňka Vydrová (authorized architect), Ing. Tomáš Cendelín (architect), and Ing. Martin Hart (KOMA), selected and awarded the following works:
  • 1st place was awarded to the duo of students from the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Architecture Tomáš Henkel and Ondřej Fiala,
  • 2nd place went to a pair of students Vojtěch Hajný from the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Civil Engineering specializing in architecture and Pavel Rak, currently studying at Ecole d´Architecture in Marne la Valée, France.
  • Additionally, three 3rd places were awarded to Bc. Peter Šercl, Bc. Andrej Švec, and Bc. Martin Tisovský, who study at STU Bratislava FA, as well as for Jan Hora and Jan Weisser from the Technical University in Liberec, who study at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, and the third awarded work was for Michal Šmihula, who studies at VUT Brno, Faculty of Architecture.
The jury praised the high level of the submitted proposals. The most successful students will be awarded on April 14, 2010, at 4:00 PM as part of the IBF 2010 fair in Brno at the KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION booth, where their works will also be on display. The awarded works can be found in the visual section.

On the architectural website e-architekt, where all 36 works are displayed, public voting for this competition took place with the following results: 1st place was claimed by the work 16MM04 by Petr Kundrát from VUT FA Brno, 2nd place went to the project PV2230 by students Vojtěch Hajný and Pavel Rak, who also won 2nd place in the official competition, and 3rd place was taken by the work FH2010 by Tomáš Henel and Ondřej Fiala, who won 1st place in the official competition. Except for the extravagant design of the "modular skyscraper" by Petr Kundrát, the official results rarely match the public votes.

KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION exhibited a low-energy module at this year's building fair CONECO in Bratislava. The low-energy module attracted great interest from both professionals and the general public. The younger generation especially appreciated the design and price. The booth was awarded the Golden Leonardo and the module itself received the Golden Plaque award (see the image section).

The IBF fair in Brno takes place from April 13 to April 17, 2010, and you can find us in the open area G5.

The team at KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION s.r.o. looks forward to your visit.
