The most prestigious award for functional design, the Red Dot Award, has been granted to the next-generation drainage grills, Drainlock, from ACO. An international team contributed to their development, with a predominance of Czech designers from the company’s development center in Přibyslav. The product is protected by two European patents and is used to cover prefabricated linear drainage channels outdoors, outside buildings or around them.
The judges of the Red Dot Awards praised the modern design of the grills, which ensures slip resistance while improving the product's hydraulic parameters, particularly the increased inlet area. Interestingly, their design is also safe because the gaps between individual U-shaped profiles are only 8 mm wide, preventing the snagging of women's heels. The grills are equipped with an original fixing system without screws and meet the standardized load class for pedestrian zones, as well as for parking lots for passenger vehicles.
The Red Dot Award is the third international recognition for this drainage solution. Just last year, the Drainlock grills from the ACO DRAIN® Multiline range received the international Iconic Design Award, which is awarded annually to products used in architecture and urbanism; this year they also received the significant iF Design Award in the Product / Construction Technology category.
Red Dot Award celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. In this year's edition, international experts evaluated nearly 5,000 products submitted by manufacturers from 56 countries. The ACO grills won in the Urban Design and Public Spaces category. The jury evaluating this category included: Joachim H. Faust, managing partner of HPP Architects from Düsseldorf; Simon Ong, director and co-founder of Kingsmen Creatives from Singapore; and Lam Leslie Lu, director of the Hong Kong Design Institute.
