Adolf Loos

Lecture by Prof. Yoshio Sakurai on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 7:00 PM as part of the exhibition "Adolf Loos Models," which he has prepared together with his students from Toyo University in Tokyo.
Yoshio Sakurai will describe his findings and experiences from his travels to the buildings of Adolf Loos. He has personally visited, measured, photographed all the houses, and together with his students created perfect models at a scale of 1:50. He will reveal the conclusions he reached during his research and exploration in this lecture at the Winternitz Villa. He has also published all of his insights in the renowned Japanese architectural magazine A+U.
The exhibition of these models will take place from March 16 to June 16, 2019, at the Winternitz Villa.

Learning through the Creation of Adolf Loos Models
Loos's interior space is often difficult to read from the plans. The reason is its three-dimensional solution. This is also why we created models that precisely describe the reality of the composition and show the dimension of functional space and the relationship between spaces. The lecture describes the process of reading the spatial composition of Loos's houses from the models and explains the difficulty of modeling them. All photographs of the models built by the Sakurai laboratory will be presented, along with some images of 3D CG models that were useful in preparing the models and understanding the composition of space. Actual photographs of the interior spaces of Loos's houses will also be presented.

The lecture will be conducted in Japanese with simultaneous interpretation into Czech.
