On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at 7:00 PM, a lecture titled "Publishing as a Critical Tool" by Berlin-based art historian Rebekka Kiesewetter will take place in the Brno space 4AM, and on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 7:00 PM, at the VI PER gallery in Prague.

The lecture and discussion will focus on the new responsibilities of critical publishers, which can be derived from contemporary theories of performative materiality and from understanding publishing as a procedural tool that frames spaces of exchange, meaning-making, and co-production. It is an administrative task that is not conceived as a means of management and control according to prevailing market logic or discipline, but rather involves the notion of care, support, and maneuvering. All of this aims to challenge the conventions, assumptions, and protocols through which knowledge is created, mediated, and received within and through publishing, and to open up alternative perspectives and trajectories.

Rebekka Kiesewetter is an art historian, economist, and historian. Her work in the field of critical theory and practice as criticism develops at the intersection of experimental publishing, art, architecture, and the humanities. She has worked as an author, editor-in-chief, visiting professor at several universities, and as a curator and researcher in various formats. She is a founding member of the DA Institute and a former co-director of Depot Basel.

The public educational program Visiting Editors is a project of the platform Fake Cities True Stories in collaboration with Gallery VI PER in Prague and the cultural space PRAHA Forum for Architecture and Media in Brno.
