Are we really living in a deeply individualistic society? Why do extreme situations reveal the truth about who we are? This will be discussed by American sociologist Eric Klinenberg, who focuses on urbanism, culture, and environmental influences. Two years ago, he published "Palaces for the People," which addresses social infrastructure. Through examples from around the world, he illustrates that the future of democratic societies is not only based on shared values but also on shared spaces. Libraries, churches, and neighborhood markets are places where key relationships are formed and provide a natural space for interpersonal interaction. They have a fundamental impact on social cohesion and public health. Thus, they are one of the important platforms for addressing political polarization, climate change, inequality, and other challenges that the world faces today. The book offers a plan to bridge our seemingly insurmountable differences.
