Can we build schools for the 21st century? A series of lectures and discussions on architecture for the education and upbringing of the youngest generation is starting.
The lecture and discussion cycle prepared by the Pěstuj prostor association for this autumn will focus on the current environment for teaching and educating children and youth, as well as the architecture of school buildings. The first part of the cycle will take place on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 6 PM in the auditorium of the Vyšší odborná škola Plzeň (Pavlov's pavilion LF UK) on Karlovarská street in Plzeň.
Education for the youngest generation is changing in this new millennium in response to social, scientific, and technological developments in the world, and will continue to change as evidenced by the regularly revised and binding Framework Educational Programs of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Innovations in educational concepts should logically be reflected in the environments where teaching occurs. However, the state currently lacks any strategic document that would help define the requirements for the functional and spatial components of school buildings. New school buildings are indeed needed and are being established in various communities. What should schools in the 21st century look like? How can buildings contribute to modern and safe education? And what is their significance and urban potential for the community? Can we even build such schools in the Czech Republic?
These and other questions will be answered by Miroslav Hřebecký, the program director of the EDUin information center on education, who also acts as an expert guarantor for the Association of Founders and as a consultant in the design and construction of new school buildings, and architect Ondřej Píhrt, the founder of the SOA architects studio and the main author of the award-winning new building of ZŠ AMOS for the Central Bohemian villages of Psáry and Dolní Jirčany, which stands out for its quality architecture, original interior, and use of the latest technologies. The building, among other things, meets passive standards and serves as an inspiration for the plans of other communities.
Entry to the event is 60 CZK. Tickets will be available on-site and in the pre-sale

The next part of the series Learning through Architecture, prepared with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the city of Plzeň, the State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic, and the Czech Architecture Foundation will continue on Wednesday, November 8, at 6 PM.
