In the cycle of presenting young artists and creators from Opava and its surroundings, titled (Self)projections, the Opava native Michal Poláš will provide the public with insight into his work. In 2009, he began studying at the Faculty of Architecture in Brno, while also realizing his first projects of smaller buildings. Between 2013 and 2015, he learned from the Czech-Swiss architect, Professor Ivan Koleček. After graduating, he entered into a five-year collaboration with Michal Palaščák in the „workshop“, and part of his work commitment also began to shift towards his own projects. At the same time, his collaboration with the art group ArtConsultancy developed dynamically, where he still operates today, complementing a team of diverse artists focused on exhibitions and displays. In addition, he strives to be active in public discussions about improving the city's environment and bringing new perspectives to the world of stereotypes. For what is normal for us can, regardless of survivability and dysfunction, become taken for granted and accepted. In the project OPAVA_Secondhandization of Space, he freely enters into the societal discussion on the topic of public space and its transformations in relation to the depopulation of the city center of Opava. Within the framework of (Self)projections, he will attempt to establish a common dialogue between the architect and the user of architecture through several questions: Why are opinions about today’s architecture so contradictory, and where is our common foundation for its perception? Where do the user and architect search for each other, even though the final work is a synergy of both these elements?
