2-11-2016, 18:00 NORBERT LACKO FRAMES OF MODERNITY: ON CRITICAL THINKING AS A WAR ACT AND WHAT MAY LIE BEYOND ITS BORDERS Critical thinking as a wartime act understands the problem of art in close connection with the understanding of the social world as a dynamic environment shaped by power relations. The power dimension is not only present as an addition to art theory but directly as a fundamental constructive element in the form of an ontological minimum, and at the same time a source of the dynamics of historical events. For us, this may mean a problem that needs to be addressed, so that the grasping of art does not occur merely as negative pointing at historical injustices, exploitation, or as the demystification of ideological mystifications, but so that it is possible to build a positive science of works and aesthetic experience.
9-11-2016, 18:00 LADISLAV ZIKMUND-LENDER UPENDED IMAGES Non-heterosexual (queer) identities are implicitly and explicitly part of both past and present visual production. They speak of the life experiences of those who could not and were not allowed to talk and write about their otherness. The lecture will present possibilities of queer readings and (self)identifications of works from the fields of visual arts, architecture, design, and collecting.
30-11-2016, 18:00 ANTKE ENGEL BOSSING IMAGES: SUBVERTING NORMALCY THROUGH QUEER CULTURAL POLITICS In this talk, I will present "Bossing Images. The Power of Images, Queer Art, and Politics," an ongoing series of curated evenings that started in 2012 at the NGbK Berlin. Bossing Images proposes bossiness as a framework to foreground the desiring but not always, hierarchical but never fully stabilized power relations that shape the production, reception, and circulation of art. The series draws on Elspeth Probyn’s thesis that desire travels in images, and inspires me to reflect upon artistic practices and queer cultural politics that intervene in regimes of normalcy.
The series was prepared by Anna Daučíková, moderated by Tomáš Hříbek and Terezie Nekvindová
