The area of the former Světovar brewery is a unique space that has rightfully been designated a cultural monument. It has all the prerequisites to become a kind of "cultural quarter" in the form of a multifunctional cultural center with facilities for urban leisure creative activities and artist residency programs.

“The Světovar Cultural Center can become a unique example of strengthening the cultural infrastructure of the city, opening up to new directions in art as well as access to urban cultural initiatives, associations, and groups. It can serve as a reference project for the city of Plzeň. A manifestation of a conceptual approach to urban development, which has long been an inspiration for many other cities in the Czech Republic with its cultural policy. Last but not least, it is also a key project in the competition for the title of EHMK 2015,” explains Kateřina Melenová from the candidacy team.

Those interested can learn more about how similar centers operate in Europe and the situation regarding the revitalization of so-called brownfields in the Czech Republic at a conference taking place on March 11 at the Techmania Science Center from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. “On March 12, the so-called Future City Game will follow the conference, allowing professionals and interested public to participate in discussions about the program, operation, and internal and external relationships of the entire Světovar complex. The game will take place at the Town Hall in Slovany, and will include a tour of the Světovar area,” explains Jana Terčová from the candidacy team.

The program of events and more information about the candidacy can be found at www.plzen2015.cz.

Please confirm your interest in participating in the conference and workshop to the contact person by March 8, 2010: Helena Šimicová, simicovah@plzen2015.cz, 777 793 735.

The number of places for the Future City Game is limited, and participation is conditional upon attending the conference.
