Architect and Heritage Conservator – this is a popular and inexhaustible topic. Are they collaborators or rivals? And how does the investor influence their relationship? These complex relationships are closely related to the fundamental question that society poses for every historical building. To protect it or leave its fate to chance? If the answer is “yes,” then another question arises: how to utilize such a protected object, what new meaning will its continued existence have? This is perhaps one of the hottest issues in heritage conservation and the relations between old and new developments – not only to preserve the building, not only to reconstruct it, but also to find a function that keeps the historical object alive.

This year’s Crossroads of Architecture seeks answers to these questions and problems, which will take place on June 3, 2014, at the National Technical Library in Prague.

The conference will feature speakers such as Naďa Goryczková, General Director of NPÚ; Radomíra Sedláková, NG in Prague; Zbyněk Linhart, Mayor of Krásná Lípa; Jaroslav Šafer, Šafer Hájek Architects; Martin Hanzl, Karlovy Vary Mineral Waters, investor of the Kyselka spa.
