The Institute of Urbanism of the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University organizes an annual working and program conference on current topics in the fields of urbanism, planning, design, and construction of settlements. The conference mainly focuses on issues related to contemporary trends and needs and their connections to real construction and positive development of settlements.

This year's edition is dedicated to the outcomes of research on current topics related to design and planning in the Czech countryside.

The purpose of the entire project is to seek valuable teaching methods for future architects in the area of designing rural settlements. This applies to all scales and formats, from houses through public spaces to land use plans. It is not a general debate about the countryside, but primarily a reflection on the architect's work in small municipalities and inhabited landscapes. The means of this reflection is the working meetings of various professionals as well as informed laypersons willing and able to share their experiences with architectural creation in rural settings. The aim of the meetings and the formulated lessons is to create a space for broad debate, to organize and present various approaches to design, and last but not least, to compile materials for teaching at architectural schools. Because only educated graduates and professionals can become significant partners of the state, municipalities, organizations, and citizens in the healthy development of the countryside.

The event is held under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Architects.
The media partner of IU2015 is the magazine ERA21.
