We registered the Bratislava studio after it received the prestigious Slovak ARCH 2010 award in 2010 for an urban house in the Inner City Residence area of Bratislava. This house is not just a nice apartment building; it stands out for its approach to community living, which is quite unusual in Central Europe. The building features a number of shared semi-private spaces where residents can meet and build neighborhood relationships. Another project by atelier gutgut that has lingered in our memory due to its punk character was the renovation of an apartment on Prievozdská Street. Here, the quality of living for young "urban" people is preserved as we have come to expect from world metropolises. Another example of creative treatment of the object was the reconstruction and extension of a panel house in Rimavská Sobota. Through a clever and seemingly random play of window proportions, a lively grid emerges that makes one forget the unified past of the building.
Gutgut has a sense for detail and a knack for extracting and presenting the essence of their concept, which they strive to infuse into every project. Gutgut is not just a studio, but also a community where the enthusiasm for life and design is reflected in their buildings. Although their projects are closely tied to the location of realization, the atmosphere radiating from them is cosmopolitan. The studio was founded in 2007 by Peter Jurkovič, Lukáš Kordík, and Števo Polakovič, graduates of the Faculty of Architecture at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, with the belief that architecture is a tool capable of responding to the questions related to society's needs and global urbanization on various levels.
Gutgut is not new to us in Zlín. A year ago, they presented at the Zlín multimedia festival Mixér. At that time, it was on a weekday at 10 a.m., so we decided to facilitate this experience at a more acceptable time, allowing a wider audience to attend the lecture of this significant studio from the contemporary Slovak architectural scene.
