Marek Jan Štěpán

Marek Štěpán has made a mark in the public consciousness with his studio as a creator of sacred buildings, characterized by peace, humility, and balance. Nevertheless, they are grand and possess an unparalleled atmosphere. His knowledge of church liturgies and history reflects in the concepts and forms of his buildings, and the effect is amplified by the use of traditional materials and contemporary details. As a result, his buildings are positively perceived by both architects and parishioners, which is not common for newly built churches. The same humility and honesty radiates from one of Štěpán's latest projects - the renovation of the landscaped park in Nový Lískovec in Brno.
Marek Štěpán also has another side. A significant project that garnered media attention was the concept of the free house Freedomku, which is mass-produced and sold. Its minimal yet ergonomically refined space allows for full-fledged living in nature, is independent of energy supplies, comes equipped with a wastewater treatment plant, and costs one million crowns. Another area of architectural endeavor for Štěpán is furniture design, which is also produced in series, and here, too, his approach is clear.

It takes place exceptionally on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 7:00 PM
at the BLOK 12 space | www.blok12.cz
