Zlín - Zlín is preparing to transform the Svobody Park near the castle in the center of the regional city. Work could begin in the second half of 2026, said city hall spokesman Tomáš Melzer today. Last year, the city hall announced the winner of the landscape architecture competition for the transformation of the park, which is the proposal from the authors of the Prague studio Loom on the Moon.

"Currently, the project documentation is being created. We expect that work on revitalizing the park could begin in the second half of 2026. This will be another step in our efforts to cultivate significant public spaces in the city," said Deputy Mayor Michal Čížek (ANO). The city aims to revitalize the park and enhance the cultural and social significance of the place. The costs for the transformation are estimated at 90 million crowns.

"The winning proposal from the Loom on the Moon studio, according to the competition jury, respects the current character of the park, preserves its atmosphere, and focuses on utilizing the space around the castle. The proposed solution is different from the nearby Komenský Park and is to connect with the already reconstructed Tržiště Pod Kaštany," the spokesman stated. The proposal also refers to the artistic installation Zlín Mirrors, which was created two years ago on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the first written mention of Zlín. The creator of the installation is also Loom on the Moon.

"The project preserves the atmosphere of the landscape park and further develops it. It references the installed mirrors and works with the motif of islands and archipelagos of greenery, among which one can walk along newly designed paths supplemented by small artistic interventions. At the same time, it also maintains the possibility of passing through the park in the main existing directions," Čížek stated. Tree felling in the park is only minimally anticipated. Three water features will be created between the castle buildings and the former courthouse, where most cultural events will also take place.
