Prague - Architect Cyril Mandel has died at the age of 82, who was, among other things, one of the authors of the football stadium of Prague's Sparta and the modernization of the Dukla stadium in Juliska. This was announced today by the management of the basketball club Sparta Prague, where Mandel worked for many years. The funeral will take place on Monday in Strašnice. In the mid-1960s, Mandel, together with Vladimír Syrovátka, designed the new Sparta football stadium, which replaced the original old stands in Letná. At that time, he also collaborated with the same colleague on the design of the tennis hall Nad Královskou oborou, which was reconstructed and expanded with training halls in the 1990s. At the beginning of the 1970s, Mandel became the author of the modernization of the Dukla football stadium in Juliska and is also credited with the design of the original sports complex of Slavia in Eden, Vršovice. Mandel was also a great supporter of basketball. He served as vice-chairman of the Sparta basketball team and was the head of the men's first league team until 1982.
