Prague - The Ministry of Defense is preparing to renovate the stadium in Prague's Juliska. The tartan track will be repaired at a cost of approximately 11 to 12.3 million Czech crowns. This follows from the Bulletin of Public Procurement. The office also plans to repair the roof of the western grandstand and the athletic tunnel, Jiří Caletka from the ministry's press department told ČTK.
"A renovation of the tartan track is planned for the stadium in Prague's Juliska, aimed at providing adequate conditions for sports training on the track that complies with the issued IAAF international certificate," said Caletka. The existing athletic track with a tartan surface featuring eight lanes, each 400 meters long, will be upgraded.
Work on the track is expected to start in the second half of September and should be completed by the end of November, according to the ministry's published tender on Wednesday.
The office also anticipates that the roofing of the western grandstand will be repaired. "The existing roofing will be replaced with new trapezoidal sheets coated on both sides with paint in the shade of the original color," noted Caletka. The drainage gutters will also be replaced, and the ceiling portion of the athletic tunnel, which was built into the grandstand in the 1980s, will receive new insulation. "The roofing was realized between 1971 and 1973. The covering has served its time and is no longer fulfilling its function. The technical condition is very poor, posing a risk of personal injury and property damage. The repairs are planned to be completed by the end of June 2017," stated Caletka.
