Žďár's people want a burgundy color for the theater, but experts are against it

Žďár nad Sázavou - The residents of Žďár nad Sázavou selected a new facade for the town's theater in burgundy color in a poll. It was favored by 430 out of a total of 587 voters. Only a few dozen people expressed their preference for the remaining options with surfaces in blue or green. Mayor Zdeněk Navrátil (Žďár - živé město association) stated during the announcement of the poll that public opinion could be decisive. However, unexpectedly, a sharp debate arose among experts, for whom the burgundy color was not a favorite. Therefore, the city will reconsider the appearance of the theater.
    "I received a large number of suggestions from architects, both local and those interested in it. Their opinions are quite diametrically opposed to what the citizens selected," the mayor told reporters today. A final discussion about the appearance of the theater, which currently has a completely gray facade, will still be held at the town hall in the development committee, and a decision could be made by April.
    The theater building was rebuilt in the functionalist style in the late 1970s. The facade modifications associated with insulation will cost nearly 25 million crowns, and the city has a promised subsidy for them. Construction modifications will be carried out this year.
    The poll took place from January 20 to February 5. Most of the 587 participants voted electronically, and a total of 164 votes were cast in five prepared ballot boxes. The town has a population of 21,700.
    "I would like to ask the citizens not to stone us in case the variant that received the most votes in the poll does not win," said Navrátil. The town hall intends to conduct public polls regularly; how to set them up correctly is something the mayor says they are learning. In the case of the theater, the professional discussion should have taken place before the poll. "We will strive to give space for expert opinions in the first phase in the future," he stated.
    The poll in the next issue of the Žďárský zpravodaj will concern the color scheme of the facade of the Hotel Morava, which the city will also be insulating this year; according to Navrátil, it will already be supplemented with statements and recommendations from the designer.
