The commencement of the completion of the museum in Jablonec is delayed by the lack of interest from companies in the contract

Jablonec nad Nisou - No one applied for the competition to build an extension of the museum in Jablonec nad Nisou for 60 million crowns. The museum must reissue the tender, which will delay the start of construction by several months.

"We would like to start building this year," said the museum director Milada Valečková to ČTK.

The construction was originally scheduled to start in September, but at that time the offers will just be evaluated. According to the director, the competition will have the same conditions as in the unsuccessful first round. "The companies we approached informed us that the problem was neither in the project documentation nor in the price, but the issue was probably the timing of when the tender was announced," Valečková said. The competition took place during the summer holidays. "Most companies are on vacation and do not have enough capacity to secure budgets and potential subcontractors," the director added. She stated that the tender will be announced in the coming days.

The extension will take the form of a glass-cut crystal, and it should be completed within two years. The museum will finance its construction from a grant provided by its founder, the Ministry of Culture. The museum needs to expand due to lack of space. It primarily wants to establish a permanent exhibition of Christmas ornaments there. The museum owns arguably the largest public collection in the world, numbering over 15,000 items. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the three-story extension will also feature the museum's technical facilities, including storage areas, garages, and air conditioning. One floor will connect freely to the existing lobby of the museum and is designed as a multipurpose space for short-term exhibitions, lectures, or concerts. During the summer season, it could also be used as a café.
