Račice-Pístovice - The castle in Račice in the Vyškov region is to become a wellness hotel, with renovations costing between 80 and 100 million CZK. It should open within five years, Miroslav Pala said today for e-Finance to ČTK. The company purchased the unused castle from the South Moravian Region this year for approximately 27 million CZK and has already opened accommodation in the forecourt.
"It is a heritage-protected building, we are negotiating with the heritage authorities, but it will take a long time. The renovations will begin once the project is completed and goes through the approval process; there are about 60 affected authorities," Pala stated.
Currently, the castle primarily has former classrooms and offices. Instead, there will be guest rooms with a total capacity of up to 150 beds, conference rooms, and a relaxation area. "There will definitely be saunas, some small pools, and also an outdoor pond. We also plan a multifunctional sports area, for example for tennis or volleyball," Pala mentioned.
The company has already repaired the forecourt, where it opened a tourist accommodation with a capacity of 35 beds during the summer. According to Pala, it is functioning very well, so the company decided to keep it open year-round.
The Račice castle was offered for sale by the region three times, and this year the company purchased it for 27.2 million crowns. The complex previously served as a special vocational school and a children’s home. The last classes were held there from 2014 to 2015. Since then, the complex has been unused, and the education department of the regional office deemed it unnecessary.
Originally a Gothic castle, it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau at the end of the 16th century and gained the form of an Empire residence a century later. Before World War II, the castle became the headquarters of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak Army, and later it was owned by the national enterprise Oděvní průmysl in Prostějov, which used it as a recreational center for its employees.
