Prague - The construction of the Troja footbridge in Prague will begin on November 7. The city is now handing over the construction site to the building company. This information was confirmed by the Czech Television to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague Together). The footbridge will be built for the city by the company SMP CZ for 128.3 million crowns and is expected to open by the end of next year. It will replace the original structure, which collapsed at the end of 2017.

"We are handing over the construction site to the building company, and the start of work is scheduled for Thursday, November 7," Scheinherr said to ČTK. The start of work was originally planned for October 14. It was delayed due to administrative issues. "We have settled everything with the Vltava River Authority, so nothing prevents the start of work," the deputy added.

The footbridge will be four meters wide and will serve pedestrians and cyclists. If necessary, an ambulance will also be able to cross it. Its foundation will be a steel-reinforced structure, it will have a lifespan of 100 years and should not corrode from the inside.

The original footbridge between Císařský Island and Troja collapsed on December 2, 2017. Four people were injured, two of them seriously. The city compensated each of them with 50,000 crowns and agreed on further compensation with the insurance company this January. Police charged two men with endangerment.
