Prague - Construction workers have fully assembled the supporting steel structures on the Trojan footbridge in Prague. They are now building and assembling the wooden parts of the deck and railings. Tadeáš Provazník, a spokesperson for the city hall, said this to ČTK today. The footbridge will be completed by the end of this October and will cost 128 million crowns. It is being built for the city by the company SMP CZ. The original footbridge collapsed in December 2017, injuring four people.

"Excavation of the construction islands in the Vltava riverbed has also begun, and work on the footbridge's abutments has started. We expect that a load test will be conducted at the end of September and adjustments to the area around the footbridge and adjacent roads will be made so that the footbridge can be opened for use in October," stated Provazník.

Construction of the footbridge began last November. In April of this year, the builders completed the foundation for the footbridge and all five pillars and began installing the deck at the beginning of June. The new footbridge will be wider and taller than the original collapsed one. The footbridge will be 256 meters long and four meters wide, allowing not only walking but also skating or cycling. In case of emergency, an ambulance will also be able to pass over it.

At the end of December 2017, a ferry was launched between Císařský Island and Troja, which replaced the collapsed footbridge. It will be discontinued after the construction is completed.

Due to the collapse of the original footbridge two years ago, police charged two men with endangering public safety. The case is still under investigation. The city has compensated the four injured individuals.
