Vysoké Mýto - Vysoké Mýto in the Orlickoústecko region will start repairing its 35-year-old swimming pool this summer. The costs could reach up to 50 million crowns. The city hall is considering a partial or complete reconstruction. The councilors are likely to decide in March. This was reported by the mayor František Jiraský (Independent).
"We have to repair the pool. The technical condition of the utility networks is critical," Jiraský stated. According to him, it is common for water to burst or electricity to fail in parts of the operation every two weeks to a month.
The city has requested an 18 million crown grant from the Ministry of Education. Whether it has succeeded will likely be known only in June, at a time when the construction work and its extent must already be approved. Therefore, the city hall must decide sooner, even with the risk of not obtaining the grant.
A more economical option does not involve the replacement of the pool basin, which would reduce costs by 12 to 15 million crowns. Mayor Jiraský prefers a complete reconstruction. According to him, the city has saved enough money from previous years.
"I would do it all at once, because it is technically complicated to skip a certain part and then recontinue in the repaired areas in two or five years," Jiraský said.
A few years ago, the city hall had the then manager's apartment converted into a wellness center. The second stage this year concerns the ground floor, where the construction company is reconstructing the lobby, refreshment areas, showers, and toilets, and installing a check-in system. In the basement, workers will repair the sauna and massage room, add an ice maker to the indoor pool, and the children's pool will also get a new look. "It is in the city's interest for the pool to function for another 30 years; we will not choose the cheapest materials so that we are not criticized for having slippery tiles like in Litomyšl," said Deputy Mayor Martin Krejza (ODS).
The pool basin has a lift floor in about one-third of its area, which is used for swimming lessons so that children can reach the bottom. The city hall wants to preserve this rarity even after the basin is replaced. The designers have proposed interior modifications in the colors of the city, which are green and gray in its logo.
