Vysoké Mýto (Orlickoústecko) - Vysoké Mýto is preparing the next phase of the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool. It could cost around 50 million crowns, although the tender for the supplier will likely reduce the price. Due to the repairs, the pool will be closed from May to November next year, Mayor František Jiraský (Independent) told reporters today.
In the years 2013 to 2014, the city added a new section to the indoor pool with a whirlpool and a slide. The range of services was also expanded by a wellness zone with a Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, and herbal chamber. In the upcoming phase, the town hall plans to renovate the entrance hall with refreshments and restrooms, refresh the changing rooms, and a new check-in system is being considered. The main pool's basin and its technology, including water and electricity distribution, will also undergo reconstruction. "Originally, we did not expect that it would be so soon after the first phase of the reconstruction. However, we are forced to do this due to the ongoing technical problems occurring in the unrenovated part," Jiraský stated.
Mýto has already commissioned an architectural study and will have the project documentation completed by January. According to public demands, the planned smaller extension will include a children's pool with a wading area.
According to Jiraský, after modernization, the pool should be more attractive to the public and operating costs should decrease. The city currently subsidizes it with five million crowns annually.
The pool was built by local residents as part of the so-called Action Z. They began in 1974 and worked for free for 175,000 hours. It was completed in 1981, and its then-value was ten million crowns. It has a movable bottom that lifeguards raise when children have swimming classes. In later years, facilities for a gym and a lobby were added to the pool.
