Prostějov - At the end of November, people in Prostějov will be able to obtain a special stamp or postage stamp with an imprint by visiting the local National House. The Art Nouveau monument, which has been commemorating its centenary throughout the year, will open a temporary counter for Czech Post. This event is part of the celebration program, Jaroslava Tatarkovičová from the mayor's office informed CTK today. According to her, interested parties will be able to get a special stamp marking the 100th anniversary of the building's completion. "Postage stamps with an imprint featuring the logo of 100 years of the National House will also be sold here. Postcards of the building will also be available," Tatarkovičová added. The counter will be open from November 26 to 30, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In the city, collectors and lovers of monuments will not be obtaining a special stamp for the first time. The city had prepared such a stamp three years ago when it celebrated the 90th anniversary of the town hall building. "People were very interested in it. Mainly philatelists bought the stamps, as the entire sheet has collector's value. But it's also a nice souvenir for everyone else," Tatarkovičová believes. This time, the town hall has prepared 900 stamps with a nominal value of 7.5 crowns. The celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the National House were initiated by the town hall at the end of last year. Throughout the year, various concerts, exhibitions, and theatrical performances are taking place. The hundredth anniversary of the architectural gem's existence prompted extensive renovations of the building. For example, the café, the theatrical part of the building, and the promenade area on the first floor, which has been restored to its original appearance, have all been renovated. The National House is a unique Art Nouveau monument of European significance and is one of the city's prominent landmarks. It was built between 1905 and 1907 according to the design of the leading representative of Czech Art Nouveau, Jan Kotěra. Its purpose was to establish a cultural and social center for the city with a pub, theater, and spaces for associations. The character of the building was significantly altered during the Second World War, which largely erased the distinctive features of Kotěra's work.
