There are more depots in Prague, but only one offers books and space for culture. People can find it from November 30, 2015, in Prague 3 on Koněvova Street, where the Municipal Library of Prague and the administrative district of Prague 3 open a multipurpose cultural space. Simply put, a branch of the library and a new cultural center - VOZOVNA. The Vozovna space was created by reconstructing the original grocery store located on the ground floor and basement of a residential building at Za Žižkovskou vozovnou 18. However, the main entrance from Koněvova Street attracts passersby to enter. Architects from the Projektil studio decided to utilize the original shop windows to provide a view into the library space, thus enhancing the openness and connection of the library with the street. Passersby can be tempted to visit, and readers can keep an eye on the happenings on the street from the sofas, with a view of the passing trams. The library on the ground floor will offer visitors, in addition to the mentioned comfortable seating, approximately 14,000 volumes of books, a selection of daily newspapers and magazines, a study/reading corner, and internet access in both wired and wireless forms. There will also be a children's section with a library - a polar bear and a ceiling enlivened with lights resembling colorful balloons. And maybe that tram will even stop by… "We would like the library to become a place for the Pražačka area that people seek out not only when they want to read something nice. We plan to collaborate with schools, especially to support children's reading, as well as with nearby non-profit organizations, and of course with our closest neighbor - the cultural center of the same name located right below the library," explains Renáta Jíchová, head of the District Library for Prague 1, 2, and 3, about the planned future activities. The multipurpose halls of the cultural center of Prague 3 in the basement are connected to the library by an elevator and staircase but also have their own entrance from the street, allowing them to operate independently even during the library's closing hours. Besides the foyer with stairs that offers seating and the possibility to watch television programs on hanging screens, the basement has two separable halls with a total capacity of up to 100 seats. A cafe will provide refreshments during cultural events or a beverage vending machine will be available. "I am looking forward to the Vozovna cultural center becoming a place that will offer a rich program made up of diverse activities. The first interesting events will take place on the very first day of operation. We warmly invite children to a fairy tale starting at 11 a.m., adults to listen to swing music performed by Avalon Swing Trio at 3:30 p.m., or a recital by Vladimír Merta starting at 7 p.m.," promises Alexander Bellu, deputy mayor for culture, about the interesting cultural experiences. The investor of the Vozovna space reconstruction is the Prague 3 administrative district, which responded to citizens' requests for new spaces for a library branch. The Chmelnice branch, which served readers since 1965, ceased operations in 2014 due to a notice from the property owner where it was located. And why the name Vozovna? Vozovna refers to the Žižkov depot, located just around the corner, and highlights the excellent tram transport connection. Transport connections: trams number 1, 9, and 11 to the Vozovna Žižkov stop. Library opening hours: Mon 1-7 p.m., Tue 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wed 12-7 p.m., Thu 12-7 p.m., Fri 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
