Vyškov - One year after the beginning of the demolition of the old ice rink in Vyškov, the city today ceremoniously opened a new stadium at the same location. It will cost nearly 138 million CZK. The public was able to skate here for the first time at the beginning of December, while in November athletes were able to try out the ice thanks to a permit for early occupancy of the building. The stadium is now officially approved.

"The deteriorating ice rink has been a significant question mark for Vyškov for many years. We managed to significantly advance this topic after years, mainly because we were able to agree on such a critical point in the city council and assembly," stated the mayor of the city, Karel Goldemund (ČSSD).

The ceremonial opening included performances by figure skaters from the training group of national champion Eliška Březinová, as well as a match between fourth grade students from Vyškov and Blansko. The official puck drop by the mayor and contractor Tomáš Halas was made more attractive by the goalkeeper of HC Kometa Brno, Marek Čiliak. "Hockey has been an incredibly popular sport in the Czech Republic for many years. An ice rink definitely belongs in a district town," the mayor added.

Demolition work on the old stadium from the 1970s began last year in mid-January, and by the end of February, only piles of rubble remained. Construction of the new stadium began in March; by June, it already had an arched roof, and in early September, builders were working on the facilities and technology. In mid-November, hockey players were on the ice for the first time, while the general public could skate for the first time on St. Nicholas' Day.

The new stadium covers approximately 4000 square meters. The foundation of the building is a self-supporting steel structure that is 14.5 meters high. The first floor contains changing rooms and sanitary facilities, technical facilities for the ice surface, and a restaurant. The second floor features a grandstand and a restaurant with a view of the ice. It is advisable to check the current opening hours for the public on the website www.zsvyskov.cz, where visitors can also find a schedule of events at the stadium.

The stadium was built by the company Zimní stadion Vyškov, and it will also operate it for 15 years based on a concession agreement. The company is a subsidiary of H+H Technika, which builds and operates stadiums in the Czech Republic and abroad. The city will pay nearly 138 million CZK for the stadium. Vyškov will pay the amount in six installments, with the first payment due at the end of 2018.
