Zlín - The abandoned area of the former sawmill in the center of Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region is likely to come back to life. City councillors supported a change in the zoning plan aimed at freeing up the area for mixed-use development with housing, civic amenities, and services. According to the city hall, this is one of the most valuable locations in the city. This was announced today by the city spokesperson Josef Beneš.

The former sawmill, which has been out of operation for several years, is located opposite the train station. "In the zoning plan, the area is designated as industrial, with space allocated for a bus station," said Otakar Petřek from the Valašské Meziříčí city council. The city's aim is to concentrate mixed development here. In addition to the bus station, this includes buildings for production or housing.
However, a condition is also the cancellation of a long-term construction ban. "It was initiated at our request. Now we will strive for its cancellation. We want to be prepared for the situation when property relations concerning the former sawmill are clarified and the local area is freed up for further use," said mayor Jiří Kubeša. According to the city hall, this is one of the largest and most valuable locations in the central part of the city. "We do not have any other that would be connected to the main communication," said deputy mayor Bohdan Mikušek. The change in the zoning plan, which will also allow for the cancellation of the construction ban, still needs to be reviewed by the councillors.
