Valašské Meziříčí (Vsetínsko) – The expert jury selected the winner of the urban-architectural competition for the use of municipal land in the area of the former Křižan sawmill and its surroundings in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region. The city hall received nine proposals, and the jury awarded the victory to the proposal prepared by architect Miroslav Moll with colleagues Jiří Příhoda and Soňa Stromšíková, announced Jakub Mikuš, spokesperson for the Valašské Meziříčí city hall, in a press release. The city's council also confirmed the winner.

"The proposal stands out for its clear concept of the square in front of the station, which emphasizes the square defined by the offices and the parking garage, concluded by a double-row avenue leading to the city center. The green axis connecting the station to the castle park is complemented by pedestrian pathways and outdoor activities. At its end, a parking lot for visitors to cultural events in the castle park is proposed in addition to the basic requirements of the competition conditions," stated the jury regarding the winning proposal. The jury also recommended modifications for a potential subsequent territorial study.

The competition was announced by the city in collaboration with the Czech Chamber of Architects this fall with the aim of obtaining a conceptual study for the addressed area. The city owns a total of 27,000 m² of land in the area of the former Křižan sawmill and another 11,500 m² in the neighboring area in front of the station and the former siding. "The competition was open to authorized architects, who were tasked with suitably locating a bus transport terminal or a new city hall for 130 employees. The avenue of Emilie and Jan Křižan cannot be absent, along with parking capacity for at least 200 cars, and it was necessary to consider the largest possible share of greenery and space for the construction of apartment buildings," stated Mayor Robert Stržínek (ANO).

The city will negotiate with the competition winner about concluding a contract for the preparation of a territorial study, which will serve as a basis for further projects in the area of the former Křižan sawmill and its adjacent surroundings. The competition proposals will be exhibited in February on the ground floor of the Museum and Gallery Center.
