Valašské Meziříčí - Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region is preparing a reconstruction of municipal apartments for next year. The apartments are being repaired gradually. Next year, the city council will let the renovation of nine currently empty apartments, the spokesperson of the council, Jakub Mikuš, informed ČTK today.

In recent years, the city has converted 11 apartments in the retirement home on J. K. Tyla street into low-threshold housing. "According to our financial capabilities, we try to reconstruct a part of the freed apartments each year. These are subsequently rented out based on applications from citizens, which are thoroughly assessed by the city's Housing Commission. We would like to start the reconstruction of another trio of apartments into low-threshold housing this autumn, so they better meet the needs of seniors, for whom they are primarily intended," said Deputy Mayor Petr Nachtmann (ODS).

Another six apartments from a total of 127 units will be renovated in the municipal apartment building on Zašovská street. "The local apartments, with a few exceptions, still have original apartment cores, so it is necessary to gradually replace them. After the renovation, we will offer the repaired apartments again to those interested in municipal rental housing," Nachtmann stated.

The work is expected to cost over three million crowns. The city, which has about 23,000 inhabitants, has 420 apartments in its housing stock. In the summer, it began designing an apartment building with 32 apartments for young families, which will arise from the conversion of the former dormitory of the glass school, building K1 on Zašovská street. The city has also announced an architectural competition for the J. K. Tyla Apartment Building. The plan includes a new building with at least 32 small flats for elderly people and people with disabilities.
