Valašské Klobouky (Zlínsko) - Valašské Klobouky in the Zlín region want to repair the central Masaryk Square. Five architectural and urban proposals created as part of the nationwide public benefit competition for the Petr Parléř Award are on display at the local business center, including the winning study by Marie Hlavatá and her team. The spokesperson for the city hall, Lenka Zvonková, informed ČTK about this today. "The exhibition shows studies that bring ideas and possibilities for how to help Masaryk Square in the future, so that it becomes a representative public space again. The proposals are meant to contribute to starting a discussion and inspire us; they are not binding for the city," said the deputy mayor and member of the evaluation committee for the Petr Parléř Award, Martin Janík. According to him, the modifications of the square are a matter for the coming years. He identified the main problems of the current square as its fragmentation, various barriers, isolation of historical landmarks, and unregulated traffic. He proposed uniform paving, the construction of parking lots and underground garages outside the square, and parking around its perimeter to ensure the accessibility of shops. According to a member of the evaluation committee, architect Tomáš Vích, the square is unique in its size, allowing for social use. "The square is framed not only by historical buildings but also by the ridges of the surrounding mountains. That is its unique beauty. I believe it has the potential to become a significant representative center that raises the level of the city. To achieve that, it is necessary to remove unnecessary barriers that have arisen over the years," Vích stated. According to the city administration, it is now important for residents to express their opinions on the proposals and their general requirements for the appearance of the square. The exhibition will last until April 12.
