Říčany (near Prague) - A leisure center for youth with a swimming pool worth 120 million crowns will be created in Říčany near Prague. The company Openplace, whose managing director is Ivan Drbohlav, the majority owner of Mountfield, intends to build it in the Na Fialce area. The center is to be located next to a new housing estate, said Mayor Vladimír Kořen (Quiet City) to ČTK. "There were protests against the housing estate, and this is obviously something that can help the infrastructure and civic amenities," he added. According to him, construction is supposed to begin this May and finish next year around Easter. "Of course, there are some partial issues, such as transportation, but Mr. Drbohlav declared at one of the meetings that he is ready to discuss another investment in the city that would help solve parking, which would be the construction of a parking garage," Kořen noted. Residential construction in the Na Fialce area near the Říčany train station has faced protests from local residents. Critics claimed that the construction is contrary to the zoning plan and demanded that these lands be preserved for public amenities, such as culture or leisure for children and youth. The approval for the residential buildings was granted by the former city council. Kořen previously told ČTK that the new city leadership wants to keep the still unfinished project under very careful supervision.
