Prague – After nearly four years of reconstruction, the capital city will today open the baroque Clam-Gallas Palace on Mariánské náměstí. In the future, the Museum of the Capital City of Prague plans to establish an exhibition focused on the baroque period there, according to previous information. The city also intends to use other spaces for social and cultural events.

Since World War II, the building has housed the Archives of the Capital City of Prague, which, since 2017, has gradually relocated to a new building in Chodovec. According to earlier information, the extensive repairs of the monument cost the city 460 million crowns excluding VAT, and due to discovered complications, the project has encountered delays. They were originally supposed to be completed last year.

The present late baroque appearance of the palace was created in the early 18th century by builder Tomáš Haffenecker based on the design of Vienna's court architect Johann Bernard Fischer von Erlach for Count Jan Václav Gallas. According to experts, it is one of the best-preserved aristocratic city palaces in the world.
