Prague - The City Hall is preparing to make the Clam-Gallas Palace on Mariánské náměstí in the historic center of Prague accessible. Shops, a café, a ticket office, and social facilities will be created on the ground floor of the palace. The reconstruction of the heritage-protected building, which is expected to last three years, is estimated to cost 323.2 million crowns excluding VAT. Today, the city's councilors approved the intention for the public contract, which still needs to be approved by the municipal assembly. Prague has been planning the reconstruction of the spacious palace for several years.

During the repairs, engineering networks will be replaced, and heating will be connected to the boiler room located in the New Town Hall building. An elevator will connect the individual floors. Exhibition spaces, which are the most attractive for visitors, will be modified. The attic of the palace could also become accessible. A vital part of the project involves restoration work. The project was prepared by architects from the MACADAM association. The project addresses the revitalization of the palace after the Archives of the City of Prague are relocated to new premises in the Chodovec complex.

The reconstruction is part of a project from 2010, in the framework of which the city leadership wanted to repair the New Town Hall building and the Mariánské náměstí itself, following an architectural competition. Altogether, it was an investment of more than 1.2 billion crowns. However, the city recently canceled the contractor selection due to high costs. However, the costs for project work have already risen to tens of millions of crowns. According to the original plan, the reconstruction aimed to remedy unsuitable construction and technical interventions from past years.

The Clam-Gallas Palace, which was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries by Tomáš Haffenecker according to the design of the Viennese court architect Johann Bernard Fischer from Erlach for Count Jan Václav Gallas, is considered by experts to be an architectural gem.
