New Town na Moravě (Žďársko) – The new sports hall in New Town na Moravě will be opened on September 11. The multifunctional sports facility, complemented by a large climbing wall, is currently in a trial operation. Schools and clubs are already booking dates in advance. It is already clear that the hall will be completely filled, said New Town mayor Michal Šmarda to ČTK. The investment of approximately 68 million crowns was supported by both the state and the region.
The Ministry of Education provided 32 million crowns for the hall, while the regional grant will cover one-tenth of the construction costs. Thus, the city will probably not need to take out a loan because of this investment. "The question is how the revenues (of the city) will develop by the end of the year, but if nothing unpredictable happens, we will not need to draw on a loan," stated the mayor.
The new hall has been under construction by builders since last spring. This was preceded by the demolition of the old sports center on Tyršova Street. According to the mayor, no significant problems arose during the construction.
The new covered sports facility has a court measuring 40 by 20 meters, which can be divided into three courts. It can host ball sports, tennis, athletics, and gymnastics. The climbing wall with an overhang is 20 meters wide and 12 meters high. Interested parties can already sign up for climbing courses.
The addition of the wall to the hall project was initially advocated by climbers, and subsequently, a larger portion of the voting residents supported it in a survey organized by the city. "This caused delays and increased costs, but at the same time made it more attractive. Because it is one of the highest quality and largest climbing walls in the country," said Šmarda.
