New Paka - The bus terminal in New Paka in the Jičín region is expected to begin operations in the fall of next year. Construction work started in mid-October, Mayor Josef Cogan (Athletes for New Paka - STAN) told ČTK today. The terminal is being built at the site of the original bus station.

"The deadline for the construction delivery is set for October 31, 2020. The bus station will be out of operation during the construction work, and provisional stops will be in Kotíkova street," Cogan told ČTK.

The new terminal, costing 64 million crowns excluding VAT, should provide passengers with facilities including restrooms and dozens of parking spaces. The grant amounts to 48.5 million crowns excluding VAT. The town of ten thousand, New Paka is a regional transport hub on the way to the Krkonoš Mountains.

This year, builders will mainly work at the site of the bus station, and the design is for a single-story, glass building. "Currently, work is being done on the piles for the new building. We'll see what they can accomplish by the end of the year. It also depends on the weather," Cogan told ČTK.

There should be a new roadway, over 40 parking spaces, and bus stands. The focus of construction work will shift next year across road II/284, where an additional 28 parking spaces are planned. The terminal should also connect to the pedestrian zone there.

The location of the new terminal was decided three years ago in a poll of the city's residents. Other options included relocating the station to another place and maintaining the current state.
