Lidice - The long-term reconstruction at the Lidice Memorial Museum has been completed, aiming to ensure the structural integrity of the building and modernize certain parts. The multimedia exhibition has been renewed, and a more dignified reception area with operational facilities has been created. The museum is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00 starting today, according to Jana Chourová Plachá, the deputy director of the Lidice Memorial.

The reconstruction began in 2020. The construction portion cost over five million crowns, and the exhibition portion over six million. Most of the expenses were covered by the Ministry of Culture, which is the founder of the memorial.

Analog technology in the multimedia exhibition has been replaced with digital technology. Visitors will notice improvements in both sound and image, according to Chourová Plachá. The exhibits are now also displayed in an environment that ensures better care for them. "We changed the exhibition showcase," said the deputy director of the memorial.

According to her, the new reception area references the motif of charred wood to the destruction of the village. The use of steel also alludes to the work of the men from Lidice in the steelworks, while the use of sandstone reflects the material that makes up the memorial.

The museum was built in 1962 based on a design by architect František Marek. The last extensive renovation was completed approximately 15 years ago. The exhibition there introduces visitors to the lives and fates of the village's inhabitants and also commemorates its destruction.

When visiting the Lidice Memorial, people can also look into the exhibition spaces with accompanying exhibitions beyond the museum. In the hall under the Tribune, there is a new exhibition titled "Lidice (in) the Past." In the connecting screening room, there is a newly created 3D model of the old Lidice. In the exhibition hall In Memoriam, we present a new exhibition titled "The Lidice Tragedy" by Eduard Stehlík. Admission is free. The Lidice Gallery now features the 50th edition of the International Children's Art Exhibition Lidice on the theme of the museum and an updated exhibition titled Remember Lidice on the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Lidice Collection of Art from the 20th and 21st centuries. In the family house No. 116 next to the Lidice Gallery, interested visitors can learn numerous interesting facts about the construction of the new Lidice.
